Well, I think there are two cases that I can see for this sort of thing:
(1) Individual members who want a stream of neat stuff to fix and do whatever with. This seems fine to me as long as these treasures either go home, or into your personal storage area.
(2) Items that can be fixed for COG use. Also fine, as long as it's been cleared as an item that the COG actually needs, and has a Single Responsible Person (SRP) that will take charge of the item in terms of fixing it and putting it into service.
The thing I absolutely want to avoid is this constant tendency to intake stuff and have it build up in the space, especially in the storage areas. I would actually say that until we've had a dedicated effort to organize and process the materials in the storage area (and cull it down), that we should not do #2 except in the most compelling cases.
But that's just my opinion.
